 FOOL'S GOLD

Released today in cinemas around Australia is a new movie called   FOOL'S GOLD.

This movie starring Texan Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson was filmed here in Queensland by Warner Bros Roadshow on the Gold Coast, Brisbane , Hervey Bay (near Maryborough), the Whitsunday Islands (near Proserpine) and Lizard Island (North of Cairns).

We were proud to provide several Bounty Hunter 'Tracker IV' metal detectors for use in this movie … I can’t tell you too much ... you will have to see the movie itself !

The picture shown below has “Finn” holding one of these metal detectors part of which, being the lower section is obscured.

However, I can tell you this:

Matthew who plays the part of Ben “Finn” Finnegan a treasure hunter, whose obsession with finding the legendary 40 chests of Queen’s Dowry treasure valued at $500 million, lost at sea by Spanish ships in the Caribbean in 1715 has cost him his marriage to Tess (Kate Hudson).

“Finn” comes back into Tess’s life when he convinces her millionaire employer (Donald Sutherland) to join his treasure quest.

There’s lots of comedy and clumsiness !

It is interesting to note that Matthew always wanted to work on a movie such as this and whilst going through the script for months was hooked once he looked into the Queen’s Dowry stories.

Matthew, at a press conference said:

“The more I got into the 1715 fleet I discovered things like it was the greatest maritime disaster in history – a lot more died than in the Titanic. It was a great catastrophe and led to Spain going bankrupt. The eleven galleons went down and they took down the entire country.

“They rolled the dice by sailing in the hurricane season and all the ships went down.

“They haven’t found the Queen’s Dowry, the crème de la crème of the treasure, and that’s the focus of this story.

The supporting cast includes British actor Ray Winstone, Ewen Bremmer and Kevin Hart.

Fool's Gold   premiered in Hollywood in the United States on 8th February 2008.

ANOTHER BIG GOLD NUGGET UNEARTHED IN VICTORIA

Yes ..... the rumour is correct !

A big gold nugget has just been found.

Last weekend (16th - 17th December 2006) a large gold nugget weighing 110 oz (or just under 3½ kg) was found just near Maryborough in Victoria.

The "Slugget" as it has been nick-named (as it looks like a slug ... but ... being a nugget).

The size of the gold nugget is about 8" x 4" and about 2" thick and could be valued up to $200,000 as a specimen.

It was found about a metre deep with a brand new Minelab GPX 4000 metal detector and it is reported that the prospector, a retired Ballarat train driver,  was using an 18" diameter coil.

It was televised on Channel 7  'News' and 'Sunrise' programmes.

JUNIOR'S LITTLE TREASURE

A demolition worker has found about $20,000 worth of silver bullion bars buried beneath a suburban Perth house.

A New Zealand demolition man known as Junior was tearing up a concrete slab on Tuesday (22nd August) at a site in Como, in Perth's south, when he uncovered some PVC pipes that contained the silver.

Junior took the 11 bars of the metal to his boss, who then took the haul to police later that day. Police believe the silver is worth about $20,000.
